Since 1933, they have been handcrafting sweets from premium local ingredients like the legendary Marusei Butter Sandwich, delicate Menkoi Petite Madeleines, and crisp White Chocolate Strawberries. They're currently available for the first time outside Japan at WAZA's summer pop-up, alongside stationery and gifts adorned with the brand's distinctive Rokka no Mori floral pattern. The iconic design illustrates the founder's belief that sweets represent cultural richness. It's the last weekend to purchase these unique gifts before they go away on July 20! Kotohira-gū Shrine is the head shrine of “Kotohira” shrines and named after Konpira, the guardian deity of maritime transportation. This shrine is long beloved by Japanese people as they affectionately call it “Konpira-san.” Its grounds are rich in art & culture and is well known for its long stone-step path. The Kotohira-gū Shrine is located in Kagawa prefecture on the island of Shikoku, and within its walls you can find various work from famous Edo period artists including Itō Jakuchū, Gantai, and Takahashi Yuichi who was a pioneer of contemporary Japanese western art. At our NEO-JAPONISM | Samurai and Beyond: Exploring Tradition Through Technology exhibition, you can peer through walls of the 120 square-foot room of the shrine’s Oku-shoin building to view Jakuchū painting, One Hundred Flowers, through 3DCG. Make sure you take this chance to experience a work of art that is usually closed to the public! #JapanHouseLA #JHLANeoJaponism #JapaneseArt #HistoricalArchitecture #JapaneseShrine #Kotohiragu #ItoJakuchu

The world of kabuki, a traditional Japanese form of theatre that began in the Edo period and was particularly enjoyed by the townspeople during this time. Through ukiyo-e portraits, artists like Tōshūsai Sharaku spotlight the diverse range of characters and personalities played by kabuki actors during the Edo period (1603-1868). In the late 18th century, developments in multi-color printing and mass production propelled ukiyo-e prints to the center of popular culture. When ukiyo-e prints were introduced at the 1867 Paris International Exposition, they greatly influenced European artists and triggered a fascination for Japanese art and design known as Japonisme. Visit NEO-JAPONISM | Samurai and Beyond: Exploring Tradition Through Technology to get a detailed look at three ukiyo-e prints with two of them featuring kabuki actors by Sharaku. You can even make your own customized postcards with the featured prints to take home with you! #JapanHouseLA #JHLANeoJaponism #JapaneseArt #Kabuki #Ukiyoe #Sharaku

Summertime in Japan is filled with lively summer festivals all across the country. A well-known one is the Tanabata Festival held on July 7. 🎋 The festival is based on the romantic legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi, a couple separated by the Milky Way and only able to reunite once a year. People write their wishes on colorful strips of paper and hang them on bamboo branches in hopes their wishes will also come true. 🌌 🌟 During festivals, the streets are crowded with people dressed in vibrant yukatas (summer kimono) and delicious aroma wafting from the food stalls. Popular street foods include takoyaki (octopus ball), karaage (fried chicken), candied apple and more! There are also games like ring tosses and fishing for yo-yo balloons to enjoy. The next time you visit a local or major summer festival in Japan, make sure to enjoy the full experience! ✨ #JapaneseFestival #SummerFestival #Tanabata #StreetFood #JapanHouseLA #JapaneseCulture #VisitJapan
